The wall behind you
A bookshelf with books of uneven depth scatters reflections better than any foam tile. If the wall is bare, one fabric panel behind the chair does most of the work.
The surface in front of you
A hard desk reflects your voice straight back into the mic. A desk mat, a folded blanket during recording or a low-profile arm that keeps the mic above the desk edge fixes it.
Distance
A dynamic microphone ten centimetres from your mouth hears you and little else. That single habit beats a thousand dollars of treatment.
