The arithmetic

A weekly show records for about two hours, so renting with an engineer costs about $160 a week, or $8,300 a year. An installed studio pays for itself in about four months of weekly episodes, and it is there for the unplanned recording on Tuesday afternoon.

When renting still wins

• Monthly or seasonal shows.

The hybrid

Many clients rent for the pilot, then book a Blueprint once the show has an audience. Rental hours are credited toward the installation when you book within 90 days.
